All Spiritual exercises like japa and dhyana are efforts to control the mind and prepare it for the journey to the Divine.That journey is service to society. This service must be done with the awareness that the Divine dwells in every heart, in every individual and in every living thing... p 9

There is nothing more precious in the world than Time. You should not waste even a single minute of it... p 22

The Divine is present in everyone. Holding firmly to this belief, one should not cause harm to anyone because he would be causing harm to God who is present in everyone... p 104

There are three obstacles which stand in the way of the full free flow of Love from man to God. They are man’s inveterate foes : desire, anger and greed… p 17

The truth is: the body, the mind, the entire cosmos is in the Atma. The Atma cannot be inside anything else. It is the All. It is everything. God is the heart of man… p 35

You have to attain the stage when you can say You (God) are I

This is the essence of all truths. This is the root of everything. This is the goal proclaimed by all the scriptures… The only relationship that lasts for ever and does not change is the association with the Atma… You are not the body. You are not even a separate spirit. You are a fragment of the Divine. This is the great truth that everyone has to realize fully… p 51

There is a guru in each of us. It is the Atma principle. It is the Eternal Witness functioning as Conscience in everyone. With this Conscience as guide, let all actions be done… p 52

Hence, Om, Braman and Atma signify the same entity… p85

As long as egoism exists, experience of divinity is impossible. Egoism and envy have to be totally uprooted… p 88

All spiritual exercises are designed only to cleanse the mind. When the mind becomes pure, the divine is experienced spontaneously… p 109

As you sow, so shall you reap. Your present state is the result of your past actions. Everyone should realize that for happiness or sorrow, profit or loss, his own actions are responsible… p 145

The best way to love God is to love all.

The realisation  that you are the Atma and that there is nothing except the Atma anywhere at any time; this is Self-realisation, the realisation of the Atma by the Atma, of yourself, by yourself as the Self… You desire God, not for God’s sake, but for your own sake. And what is this "you" which desires, which serves, which tries, which yearns and which is satisfied or pleased or happy. It is the "I" (The Atma, the Self)… p 11

 

Old age when physical charm is lost and when you have to depend on others for everything will soon be upon all. Prepare then for death, have the equipment to meet it calmly, joyfully, with quiet resignation to the will of the Lord. You cannot get it in a trice, when you want it; it is the result of long years of practice. See the hand of God in everything that happens; then, you will not exult or grieve. Then your life will be one continuous meditation… p 44

 

The first sign of spiritual life is Detachment… p 110

 

You have to continue meditation until the awareness that you are doing meditation disappears… p 17

 

There is nothing to be gained, except the awareness of what already IS. Simply BE; that is the state of Bliss, of Peace and Truth and Love… p 23

He gave you the time, the space, the cause, the material, the idea, the skill, the chance, the fortune, and you did but little of your own. So, why should you feel as if you are the doer?

Liberation happens when you Love every being so intensely that you are aware of only ONE… p 161

 

While meditating, first imagine and feel that you are in the Light, then, gradually, you can feel the Light is in you, not outside you; and finally, you will realise the Truth, that You and the Light are One and will ever be One… p 200

 

 

A recapitulation of Baba's teachings

 

Rise  every day with the thought of God; spend every day with the Name of God go back to bed with the thought of His glory as enshrined on His Name… p 54

 

God is not outside, God is inside you. You are not a man, you are God yourself… Believe that God is the inner Truth in everything and being… They are no other, you are all living cells in the Body of God. You are the breath of God, it is because of Him that you are alive, active and aware… p 65

 

God is Love and when one lives in Love e is living in God. P 66

 

Each body that you see before you is a mirror, in which, if only you open your eyes, you can see the image of God. The God in you is in each of them, too. Do not imagine the others to be distinct, they are only you, in so many mirrors… p 93

 

I am yours; you are mine, forever and ever. I am in you; you are in Me.

There is no distance or distinction… p 94

 

There are three desires which every I cannot escape from:

  1. I must live; this is the urge for immortality.

  2. The desire to know. This is an indication of the omniscience of which the I is the inheritor.

  3. The desire of joy. This evidence shows that deep in the core of the I there is a spring of bliss which seeks its mate and its fulfilment… p 98

 The realisation that you are the Self and that there is nothing except the Self anywhere at any time…. This is Self-realisation; the realisation of the Self by the self, of yourself by yourself as the self…p 113

 

Know that he who loves another is really loving himself. You are really loving yourself; for, there is only You in everyone… There are no others. You are all living cells in the body of God. You are yourself God… p 136

 

Friendship is the expression of unshakeable Love. Love that is noble, pure and free from desire or egoism. I bless you that you may have such friendship from others and that you too make others happy by granting this holy type of friendship… p 337

 

From keeping good company, detachment follows as a consequence. From acquiring detachment, removal of all illusory relationships follows as a consequence. From the removal of all relationships, steadiness of mind follows as a consequence. From the steadiness of mind, liberation of the individual soul follows as a consequence… p 341

 

The good people can be recognised by their gentle thought, word and deed… p 343

 

You have to proceed from the known to the unknown. Then, the love expands in ever widening circles, until it covers all nature, until even plucking a leaf from a tree affects you so painfully that you dare not injure it… p 357

 

 

Sathya Sai Baba, Life, Death and Liberation

  

You have been born because you did not pass in certain subjects; there is some balance of experience which you must acquire to complete the course. If you become convinced, through Self-realization, that your true nature is Supreme Consciousness, then you have finished the course, you have "passed"… p 9

 

The mind is described as the inner instrument. It is known as mind (Manas) when it is engaged in good and bad thoughts. It is called intelligence (Buddhi) when it exercises the discriminating power. When expressing the will, it is called Chitta. As a manifestation of the Divine in the individual it is known as the "I" (Aham). When the mind identifies whit the body-consciousness, it is known as ego (Ahamkaara). It causes the sense of "I do" and "I experience"… p 9

 

All relationships are incidental and temporary. As long as one is involved in worldly life, the relationship of mother and son, husband and wife, brother and sister and the like, have to be recognized as natural phenomenon. All these relationships have no permanence. Separation is inevitable sooner or lather. But between you and God, there can be no separation, at any time. p 10

 

Love yourself for the God that is embodies; love others, for the God that is enshrined in them, that speaks and acts through them… p 43

 

The purpose of "living" is to achieve "living in God"… p 51

 

The Atma has no birth, and so, no death. It is ever existing, never disappearing. It has no beginning and no finish. It does not die, nor does it kill. It is the Witness in each and all. The moment one becomes aware of the Atma, one is freed from the bondage to grief. Forget that the objective world is valid; it is at best a mental image that serve as a test… p 121

 

He who destroys desire can conquer Death, for desire breeds activity, activity breeds consequence, consequence breeds bondage, bondage results in birth, and birth involves death… p 127

 

You have been born for one purpose: to die. That is to say, to kill the "I". If delusion dies, you become Brahman (the Supreme Spirit) or rather, you know that you are Brahman… p 127

 

Because of this Atmic Bliss principle in him, man is ever seeking bliss… p 138

 

Attachment leads to desire; desire results in anger; anger blinds reason and promotes ignorance; ignorance breeds dualities of "mine" and "thine", good and bad, etc… p 146

 

That state in which one is established in the Self at all times and under all circumstances is called Self-realization… p 150

 

You must have heard the Kalidasa story. He said he would get liberation "as soon as I go", that is to say as soon as the ego disapears… The "I" when crossed out becomes the symbol of a cross; so what is crucified is the ego… p 192

It is only God who is with you during all your life and even after your death. So God is your real friend and the only relation. These worldly peoples shouldn’t be taken as friends and relatives… p 118

 

Come what may, problems, difficulties, troubles, failures, loses, blame and what not! You will know later that all this had happened for your own good… p 121

 

You are not different from God. You are God. Your praise and blame don’t affect God. The good and bad of your own actions come back to you as reaction… p 127

 

You have to surrender both good and bad to God. Never get yourself attached to the results of your actions, be they good of bad… p 162

A mother has three sons. She feeds the youngest by herself. The second is a grown up boy who will go to the kitchen and will have his food serve by the cook. The eldest son being an adult can serve food for himself and eat it. The youngest child stands for the path of action, the second son represents the path of devotion, while the eldest symbolises the path of wisdom… p 261

 

The experience of visualising the Supreme Lord in all places, times and creatures is truly  Constant-Integrated-Awareness… p 270

 

Non-violence means not causing harm to anyone and not hurting anybody either by thought, word or deed… p 288

 

You are from God, bound to God and are God as well. Realisation of this truth is the purpose of life… p 310

 

If you become love, if you are love itself, it becomes infinite and you love all. So, don’t become a lover but be love itself… p 370
